MALE INFERTILITY

Male infertility is a relatively common reproductive health issue that significantly affects couples wanting to conceive. Male infertility is defined as a condition in which a man is unable to father a child after one year of unprotected sexual intercourse with a woman who has normal fertility.

The causes of male infertility can be due to various factors, including:

  1. Abnormal Sperm Production: Issues related to sperm production, such as low sperm count, poor motility, or abnormal sperm structure, can arise from genetic factors, medical conditions (such as diabetes), infections, or unhealthy lifestyle choices like smoking, alcohol consumption, and drug use.
  2. Ejaculation Issues: Disorders of ejaculation can reduce the ability to deliver sperm into the woman’s vagina. An example is retrograde ejaculation, where semen enters the bladder instead of being expelled.
  3. Lifestyle and Environmental Factors: Exposure to toxic substances, high temperatures, or injuries from hazardous physical activities can affect sperm quality.
  4. Endocrine Issues: Hormonal imbalances can also impair male fertility.

To diagnose male infertility, doctors may perform various tests, including semen analysis, blood tests to check for hormonal fluctuations, and overall health assessments. Treatment depends on the specific cause and may include medication, surgery, or assisted reproductive methods like in vitro fertilization (IVF).

It is essential for men to consult a specialist for proper advice and treatment to improve their fertility and enhance their partner’s chances of conception.
